DNT tur, behind the scenes

1.etappe
Sota seter - Nørdstedalseter. via Tverrådalskyrkja. 26 km
Me har skjønt at alt under turen blir veldig værbestemt.
Eit massivt stup på over 100 meter går beine vegen ned i ein dal. Uheldigvis kom skodda før me rakk å ta nokre gode bileter/filmar, men me våga oss ut på eggen allikevel.

No marathon....

So.... what was not supposed to happened, happened.

My friend in Cape Town, that I was supposed to visit, is moving back to America.
After my last blogpost I did really well for a few days, and then I got sick (a flu) and didn't run for a week. During this week I got the message from my friend in CT. I was gutted, and I must say that visiting her was the main reason to go to SA in April. Now, since she is not going to be there any more I will cancel the run.

My training will now be on football and weights (soccer and gym). And hopefully I will participate in Two Oceans Marathon another time.

Here is a video of what I'm doing at Evenstad these days. Feel free to fast forward to 3:27, thats where the fun part starts ;)

Week 2

8 weeks left
This week has been busy, I've been working and travelling from Sunday to Friday night. Which means I had to try to run early or late in the evening, several times on a treadmill. It started good with 28km on the first two days, but then I ran into a gym and lifting weights was more tempting than running on a treadmill.

My target was 80 km (10 more than last week) but I only managed to do 72 km. One of the days was a rest day, and the 6 others I ran or/and lifted weights.

My legs felt fine and I am going to run further and more often next week. Got quite a few blisters on my left foot but nothing that stopped me from keep on running. My target is 90 km from Saturday to Friday (at the moment I got 31km after two days).

Sunday 1st of February I weighed myself and it showed 85kg, and I can't remember ever beening so light. I'll have to make sure I eat enough and I also don't want to loose any muscle mass, so I'll have to keep up with the resistance training. I'll check my weight again in a couple of weeks.

Still haven't booked my flights, but will do so when I get my paycheck in a few days time.

Week 1

Then the first week of training is over!
I started training last Saturday and ran a lot in the weekend, so much that I needed a rest on Monday. Then I ran Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Inn all opf these days I ran a total of 70 km. My goal was 70 km this week, and slowly I will incease the amount of km (next week my goal is 80km).

Now it's 9 weeks until the race goes off, and I have to remember to start running in the morning during March month, so my body can get used to run early. (The race starts at 6:30 AM on April 4th).

I have written down all the numbers (heart rate, kcal, pace, time, distance with and without my dog etc), and I'll present these numbers later.

The conditions have not been awesome. There has been snow, and I need to run with crampons (broddar) which make my shoes heavier then what they normally will be. I try to run intervalls as well as long slow duration running. Yesterday I ran 5 times 2000 meters, in wind and snow. It hasn't been too cold. It was -9 degrees at the coldest, but it's supposed to be a lot colder next week.

Next week I will run in several different places, since I'm travelling around Norway to present my college university for future students. It shouldn't be a big problem, but running in new places where I don't know the area can be challenging.

I've also been doing strength training as normal, which I'm pleased with. When I rest my legs, I can train my upper body. I'm about 87-88kg, and doubt I will get any lighter before the race. It will be tough to carry so much unuseful musclemass, but that's how it will be. In addition to strenght training (5-6 times a week) I also play football (soccer) for Koppang. We train twice a week and here I get a lot of intervall training since we play a lot on a small pitch indoor.

My goal is still 4 hours and 30 minutes, but I've seen that there is "siver medal" to everyone that run in less than 4 hours. I don't know if this is even possible for a guy my size, but maybe it can be a dreamgoal? I start quite far back, so I need to overtake ALOT of people, but that also might motivate me even more during the race, as long as I'm not being held 'cause of the crowd.

Week one out of ten is done! Bring on the next one!

Two Oceans Marathon

SO. This blog is alive again. I considered starting a new blog, like this (opens a new window) one, but decided not to.

Today I signed up for Two Oceans Marathon (http://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/) which will happen in Cape Town on 4th of April. That's pretty much exactly 10 weeks from today. I want to write one blogpost each week to keep myself (and you) updated on the training. The Two Ocean Marathon is 56 km long, and considered the most beautiful marathon in the world. It will be 10 999 joining me in the full marathon, and even more doing the half.

About the race
It's been going on since 1970 and is fairly flat. 72% finished last year. 8200 men participated. The winner ran in 3 hours 9 minutes. If I run in less than 4 h 30m I will be withing the top 500.

About my experience
I ran Kilimanjaro Marathon (here is a blog post (opens a new window) which I wrote after the race), and I ran Hornindal Rundt (75 km mountain race) in July with my youngest brother. That race qualified me for Two Ocean Marathon (TOM). Other than that I do some running every now and then.

About my training
I go to the gym almost every day, and I want to keep doing that, I will just run more than I've been so far. Here it's lots of snow, and it's failry cold (about 10-20 degrees below celcius). This is not optimal preperations for a run that's going to take place in Africa. Anyway. I'll manage

Why?
I love challenges and pushing my limits. This will be the longest race I've been running (the mountain race I had to walk the hills), and I know how good I felt after the Kili Marathon, even though it hurt so much!

Goals
I did the Kili Marathon in 3 hours 8 minutes, and TOM is 14 km further. The Kili Marathon was 10 km of uphills, and 10 km of downhill, rest was flat. TOM is pretty much flat the whole race. So I will aim for less than 4 hours and 30 minutes.
