Two Oceans Marathon

SO. This blog is alive again. I considered starting a new blog, like this (opens a new window) one, but decided not to.

Today I signed up for Two Oceans Marathon (http://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/) which will happen in Cape Town on 4th of April. That's pretty much exactly 10 weeks from today. I want to write one blogpost each week to keep myself (and you) updated on the training. The Two Ocean Marathon is 56 km long, and considered the most beautiful marathon in the world. It will be 10 999 joining me in the full marathon, and even more doing the half.

About the race
It's been going on since 1970 and is fairly flat. 72% finished last year. 8200 men participated. The winner ran in 3 hours 9 minutes. If I run in less than 4 h 30m I will be withing the top 500.

About my experience
I ran Kilimanjaro Marathon (here is a blog post (opens a new window) which I wrote after the race), and I ran Hornindal Rundt (75 km mountain race) in July with my youngest brother. That race qualified me for Two Ocean Marathon (TOM). Other than that I do some running every now and then.

About my training
I go to the gym almost every day, and I want to keep doing that, I will just run more than I've been so far. Here it's lots of snow, and it's failry cold (about 10-20 degrees below celcius). This is not optimal preperations for a run that's going to take place in Africa. Anyway. I'll manage

Why?
I love challenges and pushing my limits. This will be the longest race I've been running (the mountain race I had to walk the hills), and I know how good I felt after the Kili Marathon, even though it hurt so much!

Goals
I did the Kili Marathon in 3 hours 8 minutes, and TOM is 14 km further. The Kili Marathon was 10 km of uphills, and 10 km of downhill, rest was flat. TOM is pretty much flat the whole race. So I will aim for less than 4 hours and 30 minutes.
