For 9-10 years I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii, and now I
am here. On Sunday morning, my Godmother asked me if I was excited, but I didn’t
really feel it that way. It just felt like I was only travelling from A to B.
But today, Monday, when I was leaving LAX I started to get excited. That’s when
I kinda realized that I’m actually going to Hawaii.
LAX to Honolulu! |
The shuttle bus from the hotel to the airport went at 1 PM
so I had plenty of time before my plane departed LAX. When I was in the line
for checking in I noticed there was a British family behind me. The cue went
slow, so I started to small talk. When I asked them where they’re from, they
answered «just north of London, in Buckinghamshire». I kept asking, «where in
Buckinghamshire?». The dad said: «in a small town called Aylesbury». I was so
surprised, ‘cause I lived two years in Aylesbury. The Dad even used to own a
flat in the street I lived in, and when I said I was from Norway he told me his
sister in law is from Stavanger. Such a small world.
Honeymoon? Maybe? To get married? Maybe? |
The time at the airport went fast, since I was finishing the
data input. I tried to call my American family in Washington, but I had to
leave a message.
Makes me think of my time in the States 2005/2006 |
In the airplane the captain informed us that the weather was
nice and we would have a comfortable trip, at least until we got close to
Hawaii. «There is a hurricane approaching and it will get choppy the last 350
miles». Then he told us not to worry since we would fly more north than usual,
so we would avoid the worst weather.
More Monsters in the US than in Norway! |
My mother always tells me to be open to new stuff. So had to try this |
When I travel, I try to avoid jetlag, and it’s rarly a
problem. Yesterday I stayed awake the entire trip (11 hours) from London to Los
Angeles, so when I arrived Sunday evening I was ready for bed. What I worry
more about is getting a flu. There are so many travellers that are sick, so
anti-bac and avoid touching eyes and mouth is a must.
Sunset from the airplane |
I arrived Honolulu airport at 7:30 PM, and since I had not
booked any accomondation, I took the city bus to Waikiki (nearest city). I
jumped off and found a hotel that could offer me a room for $80 a night. Deal.
It might be even hotter here than in California, at least if feels like it. I’m
sweating just having a walk.
Got a window seat, decent view |
The first night I spent finding gifts for my group back in
Evenstad. I promised them some cheesy gifts since I am not helping them at the
lab this week. Tomorrow I’m flying to Maui, apparently thats where the paradise
is.
